The Crown's Game: The Sun

Description

Vika Andreyeva/Enchanter Two, from Evelyn Skye's The Crown's Game and its sequel The Crown's Fate. I had a lot of fun reading The Crown's Fate, and Miss Skye does such a great job with her worldbuilding and magic. All of the flavor of Imperial Russia spiced with magic and glorious descriptions of food.

I was inspired to do a 3-piece set with the three main characters as major arcana tarot cards: Vika (The Sun), Nikolai (The Moon), and Pasha (The Star). I was torn, for a bit, between Vika's standard green dress and the blizzard dress, but the prospect of trying to manifest a blizzard into some semblance of a dress sounded too fun to pass up. If only I'd known how many times I would have to scrap all of my sketches... I was aiming for a sense of "wild"ness, as Vika's speciality is elemental magic, and she uses both fire and ice frequently in the series. The back-lighting was tricky, but I like how it turned out in the end!

I'll be working on Nikolai next, and finish off with Pasha.

Oh, Miss Skye, why must you always go touring when I have tests? Last year I was taking my APs, and this year I had finals. Forever out of my reach, even though you were signing less than an hour's train ride away.

I might go back and edit the border, it looks too rough and unfinished especially considering how much time I spent on drawing Vika herself!

I like how you mention all these things but YOU DON'T EVEN MENTION THE HUGE SHIFT IN STYLE. COME ON ARE YOU KIDDING ME IT'S HUGE, YOU CAN'T JUST NOT SAY ANYTHING.
The face is just so different. A lot more towards a realistic style. Those eyes could stare me down and kill me they're so real (teach me your ways???). The shading is super soft, and you weren't as scared to use some darker shadows. The shadows are just so improved here. What happened in the last few months? Did I even mention how much of this is practically lineless??
I would say you could play with some more interesting highlights for the face but it's just so beautiful how it is now. I can't wait to see the other two in this series~
